Anne E. Norris (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a Senior Research Scientist at REAL Prevention LLC and University of Miami Emeritus Professor. Her primary interests are in (1) what gets in the way of people making healthy choices, particularly with respect to sexual and reproductive health, and (2) using simulation and technology to build skills for enacting healthy choices. Dr. Norris is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scientist who enjoys collaborating with various disciplines (psychology, communications, computer science, accounting, engineering, public health, nursing, medicine) and professionals (actors, teachers, nurses, clergy) to create and evaluate culturally grounded intervention programs. Her work has been supported by grants and contracts from the Ohio Department of Mental Health, the Tri-Service Nursing Research Foundation, the Institute for Fraud Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. The impacts of her past projects range from sexual health recommendations for the U.S. Navy to training and practice recommendations on how to enhance an auditor’s ability to skeptical when reviewing internal control exceptions to new insights on adolescent sexuality and adolescent sexual health promotion. Current health promotion technology-based projects involve collaborations with the Miami and Orlando, Florida public schools. These projects combine face-to-face delivery with interactive computer games or apps to promote healthy choices in young adolescents that result in a delay in initiation of intercourse. Dr. Norris has nearly 100 publications and has served on various scholarly nursing journal editorial boards. She is also a registered nurse, a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2016.
